Audio on a Dime
By Joanne | July 25, 2007

How would you like to attract more people to your web site with audio?
Have you seen the show “Design on a Dime” on HGTV? That’s where a team of designers does a makeover for one room for about $1000 or less and when they’re done the room looks as if they’ve spent a few thousand dollars. I can show you how to put audio on your web site on a dime – or for a lot less money than the experts will have you do it. You can put audio on your web site without using any fancy equipment, all you need is a telephone, your computer, a free audio editor, and an audio service that I’ll tell you about in this article. I use this audio service to record all of my teleseminars and my podcast and to host all of my audio files, all for only $19.95 a month.
Here’s how I do it…..
First, you’ll need a telephone. I recommend that you use a land line phone and a headset. It’s much easier to speak  into a headset than a hand set when your recording over the phone or doing a teleseminar. You can get a good headset with a mute button and volume control at radio shack for about $30. You’ll need to have a bridge line if your going to record a teleseminar. There a few free bridge line services available. I use FreeConferenceCall.com.
To record the audio I use Audio Acrobat. With Audio Acrobat you can record audios, teleseminars, testimonials, podcasts, and even videos; download them to your computer for editing, and then upload the finished recording or video to the Audio Acrobat web site. From there you can publish the audio or video to your web site, ezine, or podcast. Audio Acrobat is extremely easy to use and they have live tutorials each week to help you get started. You can even try Audio Acrobat free for 30 days. Once you have your recording you’ll want to edit it so that it sounds just the way you want it to. I use an excellent free audio editor called Audacity. Not only is it completely free, it’s also open source. You can download Audacity from www.audacity.sorceforge.net.
If you need help using Audacity, I’ve found a great free tutorial at
http://www.how-to-podcast-tutorial.com/17-audacity-tutorial.htm.
This is actually part of a tutorial on “How to Podcast” from Jason Van Orden, and I highly recommend his podcasting tutorial and newsletter. His tutorial is full of step-by-step information on how to set up a podcast and it’s entirely free. Other “gurus” are charging a lot of money for information that Jason gives away for free! Once you’ve edited your audio, you can upload it to Audio Acrobat or another audio hosting service and publish it to your site. Feel free to leave your questions and comments for me on this site. I’d love to know how you’re doing with your web site.
Happiness and Prosperity,
Joanne
